VA VETERANS SERVICES
Veterans of the United States armed forces may be eligible for a broad range of programs and services provided by the VA. Eligibility for most VA benefits is based upon discharge from active military service under other than dishonorable conditions, and certain benefits require service during wartime. ACP MENTORING PROGRAM
ACP’s Mentoring Program connects post-9/11 veterans (Protégés) with corporate professionals (Mentors) for yearlong, customized mentorships. ACP assists veterans on their path towards fulfilling, long-term careers, whether the veteran is job searching or newly employed.
Typical mentorship goals include:
- Résumé review and interview preparation
- Career exploration and understanding job opportunities
- Career advancement once a position is obtained
- Work-life balance
- Networking
- Small business development
- Leadership and professional communication
SUFFOLK COUNTY UNITED VETERANS
Serve the homeless Veterans of Suffolk County. They offer housing programs provide emergency shelter, along with transitional and permanent housing. Case management, peer support, educational assistance/job training, transportation, & two food pantries all support the Veteran to heal &reintegrate successfully back into the community.

LONG ISLAND CARES
Long Island Cares understands the challenges faced by returning soldiers and their families as troops transition from the front lines to the home front. To help veterans from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties facing financial hardship and food insecurity as they assimilate back into civilian life, we offer several veterans’ service programs:
- Military Appreciation Tuesdays: Hosted each week at Long Island Cares’ pantries located in Huntington Station, Lindenhurst, and Freeport, this is a chance for veterans and their families to access food, as well as personal care items, household products, pet food, and school supplies when available. All veterans are provided with information and resources pertaining to veteran-specific benefits. We are grateful to have BNY Mellon Wealth Management as the sponsor of this critical program.
- Mobile Pantry: Delivers nutritious groceries to homebound, disabled veterans unable to access their local pantries.
- VetsWork: Assistance that can help veterans build job skills (i.e. cover letter and résumé writing), aid in their job search process, and facilitate real workplace experience through various volunteer and training opportunities.
- Community Outreach Initiatives: By collaborating with both the Nassau and Suffolk County Veterans Service Agencies and the Northport VA Hospital, we are able to support events such as Veteran Stand Downs which provide vital health and social services to veterans of all ages and circumstances. In addition, our services are made available to various community organizations providing counseling, homeless outreach, and emergency assistance to veterans in need.
